William P. Hileman

January 9, 1931 – December 28, 2023


William Paul Hileman, 93, a resident of Ridley Park, PA. passed away peacefully on December 28, 2023, at Masonic Village of Elizabethtown in Elizabethtown, PA.

Bill was born on January 9, 1931, in Martinsburg, PA and raised in Altoona, PA.  Bill graduated from Altoona High School on June 10, 1949.  While attending high school he was involved in playing basketball and the trombone nicknamed “Slush Pump” by Bill in the dance band, orchestra, and marching band.  He was also President of his 1949 Senior Class.

After graduating high school, he moved to Prospect Park, PA. to start working at Westinghouse Electric Corporation at the Lester Plant, where he met and married the love of his life, Eliane Hileman, on August 21, 1953.  During their 61 years of marriage, they raised three loving children, Douglas, Debra, and Donna while living in Ridley Park, PA.

Bill attended Penn State Great Valley and was in the United States Navy Reserves as a “Radar Man” from 1954 to 1958 based in Philadelphia.

Bill worked at Boeing as a buyer for over 25 years until his retirement in July of 1995.   During his retirement years, he and his wife enjoyed going south for the winter months to Stewart, FL.  He enjoyed a wide variety of activities including spending time with his family by going on yearly family vacations, was a Mason for 50 Years and involved in the Masonic Prospect Park Lodge #578 and Elizabethtown Lodge #682.  He was active in the Donegal Area High Twelve Club #686.

One of Bill’s passions was attending Penn State University football games with his wife, family, and friends for over 30 years.  Both Bill and Elaine traveled to many Penn State away games including the University of Southern California, the University of Alabama, the University of Notre Dame, the Cotton Bowl in Florida, and the Rose Bowl of 1995 in Pasadena, California.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Esther Elaine Hileman and is survived by his three children, Doug Essinger-Hileman, Debra (Hileman) Wheeler, Donna (Hileman) LeGault.  He is also survived by his grandchildren, William Wheeler, Thomas Essinger-Hileman, Daniel Wheeler, Elizabeth (Essinger-Hileman) Morton, Laura Essinger-Hileman, and Julie (Wheeler) Cotroneo; and his six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to: “The Tree of Life” Masonic Village Retirement Charity 1 Masonic Drive Elizabethtown, PA 17022.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 10:30 A.M. followed by the Funeral Services at 11:30 A.M. on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA. 19074.
