Obituary

Marie Anne (Ross) Rightnour of Glenolden, PA passed away peacefully the morning of November 30, 2023 at the age of 86. Marie was born on November 28, 1937 to loving parents Peter and Mary Ross of Woodlyn, PA, where Marie grew up.

Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She was happily married to the late William Briggs Rightnour for 47 years until his death in 2004.

Marie worked as a cashier at Acme Market in Media, PA with her father until she had her first child in 1959. After that she spent her remaining years as a homemaker taking care of her family.

Marie and her husband Bill had a trailer and enjoyed camping at various campgrounds over the years. Early on with their children, and later in life by themselves. They eventually settled at Tall Pines Campground in Elmer, New Jersey where they had their own seasonal campsite and where they would spend every weekend and vacations.

Aside from camping, Marie also found joy in family gatherings, lunch and shopping trips on Saturdays with her daughter, going out to breakfast and talking about the good old days with her brother Danny, watching Phillies baseball, and listening to music. Marie also enjoyed traveling a bit, haven taken multiple cruises to Bermuda and trips to Las Vegas with her daughter. She even flew to Disney World once, just for the day.

Marie was a big animal lover. She adored her own family’s many dogs and cats over the years, but also enjoyed the neighbors’ furry friends as well. The innocence, loyalty, and comfort of animals brought Marie great happiness.

Marie is survived by her son, William Phillip Rightnour (wife Joan) of Coatesville, her daughter, Kelly Marie Rightnour of Glenolden, three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, her younger brother Daniel Ross of Ridley Park, five nieces, three nephews, and her cat Cooper.

Marie is predeceased by her husband William Rightnour, her parents Peter and Mary Ross, her brother Peter Ross, her brother William Ross, her baby sister Mabel Jean Ross, and her nephew Bryan Ross.

In her time with us, Marie touched the lives of those around her with her warmth, kindness, and generosity. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace and may her memory be a blessing and continue to brighten our lives.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 10-11 AM at Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074 and to her Funeral Service at 11 AM.
