Obituary

Josephine Chiaffa (nee Betoni), age 89, of Landenberg, Pa. (formerly of Philadelphia, Pa., Norwood, Pa., Lewes, DE), passed away peacefully on August 25, 2021 surrounded by love.

Josephine is survived by her brother, Rev. John Betoni; her children, Vickie Porter (Dennis), Stephanie Price (Frank), and Sandra Kennedy (Charles); her daughter-in-law Claire; her grandchildren, Michael (Alana), Audrie (Paul), Steven (Stephanie), Sammy, Christie, Danielle, and Vincent; her seven great-grandchildren; dozens of nieces and nephews; along with her honorary daughter, Tina Gómez (Luis), and grandchildren, Andrea, Alicia, and Julián.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel Sr.; her son, Samuel, Jr.; her brother, Frank; her nephew, Tommy; and her great-grandchildren, Jayden and Dillon.

If you were lucky enough to know Josephine, you were witness to her feisty and resolute spirit, given a second (or third) helping of her comforting cooking, amazed by her impeccable memory, and often walked hand in hand down memory lane.

Her family will remember her as their matriarch, a powerhouse of a woman, unapologetically herself, always quick to speak her mind and tell it like it is–often sparking uncontrollable laughter and fun-filled banter.

Cherished memories with Josephine are infinite and will forever live in the hearts of those who loved her most, those who called her mom, aunt, mommom, gram, bummie and Jo.

The celebration of Josephine’s life is scheduled for Wednesday, September 1, 2021, but will continue on in every day acts of those she touched and her beloved traditions.

There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 9:30 A.M. to 11 A.M. at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 233 Mohawk Avenue, in Norwood, Pa. 19074 followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 A.M.

Her burial will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa.

In lieu of flowers, we ask that you send donations to the Samuel Chiaffa Memorial Fund in her name, either online via the link below or by check.
