George “Sonny” Enrico Campanile, Sr.

April 13, 1939 – August 21, 2022


George “ Sonny “ Enrico Campanile, Sr. of Essington, Pa. passed away on August 21, 2022 at the age of 83, with his loving family by his side. He was born in Philadelphia, Pa. to the late Enrico and Anna (nee Kozak) Campanile.

Sonny is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Billie Marie Campanile (nee Atwood), his son George “Benny” Jr., is granddaughter Analyse, grandson George III and his brother Ricky. Sonny was predeceased by his brothers Harry, Tommy and his sister Anna.
Sonny was drafted into the US Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Colorado. He was discharged with honors in 1968. After the service Sonny went to work for G.E. and then on to Septa where he retired in 2001.

One of Sonny’s favorite places to go was down the shore where he and Billie would take their boat out on the water so Sonny could fish. He also, loved going to his cabin in the mountains where he could hunt. Sonny just loved to travel, especially on Cruises they were on 21 of them. They sailed pretty much all the islands in the Caribbean, went up North to New England and Canada and they also went to Alaska. Always traveling with family and friends.

Sonny was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church of Essington. You could always find him at the game tables for the Strawberry Festival each year or in the first pew recording Billie singing during the services.
Family and friends are invited to attend his services at St John the Evangelist Church on Wednesday, August 31, 2022. Visitation is from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Service will be at 11:00 AM with the Military Burial immediately following in the Church Garden.
