Obituary

Eleanor Edith Wittig-Devine-Allen of Sharon Hill passed away on the evening of Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the young age of 91. She was born on July 30, 1931 to Albert Herman Wittig and Eleanor Edith Wittig (nee Adams.)

Eleanor was preceded in death by first husband Lawrence Devine, second husband William Allen, sister Dorothy Greller, and son Harry Devine.

She is survived by her daughters: Linda and Suzanne; grandchildren: Linda Ann (Mark), Jeff (Kelley), Steve (Caitlin), Steve (Dessica), Nicole (Al), and Azure; and 11 great-grandchildren: Tristan, Lauren, Amanda, Samantha, Brianna, Sydney, Seth, Kevin, Layton, Harrison, and Cooper.

Eleanor grew up with her sister, Dorothy, in Philadelphia. The sisters were exceptionally close. They made many wonderful family memories together and were very fond of their whiskey sours.

As a vibrant teen, Eleanor met her first husband, Larry, at a friend’s party. He was devoted to her until his death in 1984. She married her second husband, William Allen in 1986. Eleanor spent many happy years and enjoyed traveling with both husbands.

She was a proud member of the Ladies Auxiliary, and was often involved in many activities at VFW Post 7213 throughout both her marriages. Eleanor also spent many years in dedicated service to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Clifton Heights. Her experience as a bookkeeper for a prominent law firm in Philadelphia for many years led her to help many others with her financial skills.

Eleanor was wise, fair, private, financially savvy, and a sense of humor. Always social, she wanted to be a part of every celebration. She kept her long-standing hair appointment each week so that she would be looking her best for any club event or a quick trip across the country. Eleanor was admired, respected, and befriended by many.

A viewing will be held at Griffith’s Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074, on Saturday, May 20, 2023 from 9 -10AM with funeral service to follow. Charitable contributions in Eleanor’s honor may be made in lieu of flowers to St. Mark Lutheran Church, 436 N Oak Avenue, Clifton Heights, PA 19018.
