Obituary

Dorothy Jeanene Tasker was born November 23, 1928, the daughter of Cynthia and William Rowsey, Charleston, W.Va.

She graduated from Milton High School in 1946, earned a teaching degree from Marshall University, Huntington, W.Va., and went on to teach high school physical science and English. She remained a life-long learner.

She and the Reverend William R. Tasker were married in 1955. Prior to his death in 2005, she and William served as pastor and spouse of five churches in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. The last church they served was the Brookhaven Baptist Church in Brookhaven, Pa., from 1985 to 2004.

They loved to travel particularly to American Baptist Churches, USA, mission posts; they visited twenty-two countries and all but four of the United States.

Dot, as she was known by her many friends, was active in American Baptist Women’s Ministries at the association, regional, and national levels. In the late 1980s, she served as president of the American Baptist Women’s Ministries of Pennsylvania and Delaware.

She was President of the American Baptist Churches of Pennsylvania and Delaware from 1989 to 1990 and, for several terms, chair of the Board of Trustees of Crozer Theological Seminary. Crozer is now merged with Colgate Rochester Crozer Divinity School in Rochester, New York.

Dot is survived by a niece, Cynthia Sturgeon Ball and her husband Gordon, who reside in Ashton, W.Va. and close friends Pastors Carl and Valerie Gittings of Fairmont, W.Va. and their sons, Carl, David and Thomas.

A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 11 am at Edgewood Memorial Park, 325 Baltimore Pike, Glen Mills, Pa 19342.
