Bernice Margaret Kennedy, born on July 18, 1924 in Beaver Falls, Pa., passed away on June 7, 2021, from natural causes at the age of 96, surrounded by her loved ones. Bernice was the last survivor of 11 siblings born to her mother, Pearl Eliza Ferguson (father, John Mulhern McDermott). She experienced the loss of two beloved husbands, Herbert Machett and Willard Kennedy, along with the loss of two beloved sons, Richard and Robert Woloson. She is survived by her third son, John P. Woloson and grandchildren John and Lisa Woloson (Keichline), plus 5 great-grandsons and 3 great-great-grandsons.
Bernice was a beautiful woman who turned heads wherever she went. She was strong, independent, and had a sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes. She worked as a telephone operator until she retired at the age of 72, ten years longer than required. She loved flowers, and bragged that she planted everything in her yard! She also loved decorating for the holidays, and made a mean Thanksgiving dinner. She never threw anything out, and fixed most things with duct tape! Some other favorites included Kleenex, chicklets, and ice cream (which she ate every evening).
She appreciated her second family Kim, Mike & Michael Wegelewski, whose daily check-ins over the last several years allowed her to remain at home in Norwood, as she had for 62 years. She spent the last 8 months with her granddaughter’s family, and was the happiest when holding her great-great-grandbabies.
Relatives and friends are invited to her Funeral Service on Monday, June 14th, 2021 at 11 A.M. at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, in Norwood, Pa. 19074. There will be a visitation time on Monday from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. at the funeral home.
Her burial will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa.
