Obituary

On May 30, 2021 Anne went home to be with Our Lord. Born, June 19, 1935. Beloved daughter of Rodger Thomas Sr. and Mary (Grady) Cooney.

Dear Sister of, Mary, Mildred, Rodger, Joseph and John. Survived by Sister Mary Joseph and The Sisters of Precious Blood. Loved by many, we adored our dear Aunt Anne, for her actions echoed Mother Teresa verse, “Let us always meet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.”

A radiant light of positive energy surrounds her memory, bringing joy to our hearts. Anne is the epitome of God’s grace-sweet, patient, witty, kind, loyal and caring. She loved Gods creations, an amazing fine artist and classy dresser.

Often in her younger years you would find Anne frolicking in Wildwoods ocean waves. Growing up in an Irish Roman Catholic family, laughter, dance, music and religion is ingrained deep within us. From early on, Anne felt the gift of God, an invitation into a deeper relationship with God. “You reveal the path of life to me; in your presence is abundant joy, at your right hand are eternal pleasures.” Psalm 16 “Then I will go to the altar of God, to God, my greatest joy. I will praise You with the harp, O God, My God” Psalm 43:4.

For ten years, the Manchester Sisters of the Precious Blood became her adopted family. As a cloister nun Mary Julianne (her sister name) with prayer, genuine love for the Holy Eucharist and the Most Precious Blood of Jesus, a bond was formed that unites the hearts and souls to God and one another.

Sadly, her mom Mary fell ill. Anne left her vocation to care for her family and worked for Bell Telephone. Well, we all know, God works in mysterious ways – as Anne was at the convent, a young man (a Christian brother) was teaching at St. James High School for Boys, Chester PA. Years passed and he too left his vocation. One day, many years later, Joseph Gavaghan visited his brother in Drexel Hill, PA. Guess who lived next door?! Sparks flew and their love story began that day! They shared 30 + years of happiness until Joe’s passing.

Anne revered our Blessed Virgin Mary xo “And the Lamb with conquer, And the woman clothed in the sun, Will shine Her light on everyone. Golden Rose, Queen of Ireland, all my cares and troubles cease, as we knell with love before you, Lady of Knock, My Queen of Peace”. (Cooney ancestral home County Mayo Ireland)

Relatives and friends may call Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 3422 Dennison Ave., Drexel Hill, Pa. 19026.  Viewing at 10 A.M.  Mass to follow at 11 A.M.

Her burial will be in Saints Peter & Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pa.
