Obituary

Alice M. Buck (Nee Wood) 85, of Essington, PA, passed away peacefully at home on September 29, 2022 surrounded by her family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Alice is survived by her loving son and daughter-in-law Carter & Kim Buck of Essington, daughter Brenda (Jessie) Johnson of Leedom, sister Lucy Buck of Folsom, brother Jack Wood of Chester, grandchildren Lynnie Kempf of Ocala, FL, Brian Kelly of Springfield, Madeline, Jack, Nathan & Luke Buck of Essington, great grandchildren Breezi & Brandon Kempf of Ocala, FL and her great-great grandson Kayson of Ocala, FL. She is also survived by her good friend and caretaker Cathie Durgun of Essington, many friends, nieces, and nephews.

Born on LaGrange Avenue in Essington, Alice spent the majority of her life in the same town. She was a homemaker for most of her adult life, but her favorite job was working at the front gate of the Tinicum Pool where she enjoyed seeing and talking to everyone who came through. She worked in the cafeteria of the Tinicum School for a few years as well as at the flight kitchen. She also cared for and cleaned for some of the elderly in the neighborhood. She loved to sing and dance and simply just to be around people.  She was a kind soul and touched many. To know Alice was to love her.  Most of all she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. They were her pride and joy.  

For the last 12 years of her life, she lived with her son, daughter in law and grandchildren who cared for her.

Mrs. Buck was predeceased by her husband George E. Buck, her mother & father William & Marie Wood, daughter Marie Saunders, siblings Ann Hummel, Francis Wood & Charles Wood, and her grandson Paul Moore.

Relative and friends are invited to her Funeral Service on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at 11 AM at the Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood, PA 19074. There will be a Visitation on Tuesday from 10 AM to 11 AM at the funeral home. Interment be in Lawn Croft Cemetery in Linwood, PA following the service.
