Maureen Regina Matyskiela Long

Maureen Regina Matyskiela Long, 52, passed away on March 12, 2020, after a long fight with cancer.  Born and raised in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Helen Matyskiela.  She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Russell; her son Robert; and her daughters Rose Marie and Bernadette.  She is also survived by her sisters, Joan Matyskiela, Michelle (John) Little, estranged sisters Jeanne (William) Haddy, and Elaine (Lynne Kennedy) Matyskiela; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Maureen was an avid reader, bird and animal enthusiast; she loved spending time at the Heinz Refuge and Kent Dog Park.  She was a Girl Scout leader for Troops 5462 and 57082 for ten years and inspired many young women to become leaders of today and tomorrow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 128 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074 or to Melanoma Research Alliance, 730 15th St. NW, Washington, DC, 20005, in memory or thanksgiving of Maureen would be appreciated.

Maureen will be remembered for her infectious smile, willingness to help others, and welcoming all into her home.

Over the years Maureen worked as an Administrative Assistant, home childcare provider (15 years), and was last employed by the Episcopal Diocese as a receptionist.  She believes this was her dream job before being diagnosed with Melanoma cancer.

Due to the COVID-19 restrictions we are now able to come together to remember Maureen's life.  A Celebration of Life for Maureen will be held on Saturday, June 26th, 2021 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 501 Chester Pike, Norwood, Pa. 19074.  The service will begin at 11 A.M. with visitation starting at 10 A.M.
